HARNESS RACING HANDICAPPER

The Program has been designed to cover the six most important considerations when handicapping a Harness Race. They are Class, Consistency, Current Form, The Driver, Post Position and How The Race Will Be Run.

CLASS

The Program determines if the current Class of the Horse is equivalent with the Class of the race it is now entered in. The Program compares the current race’s purse value with the Horse’s previous race purse values while using finish and stretch position variables to rate the Standardbred’s Class.

CONSISTENCY

A Standardbred which is well trained and properly raced should have a competitive percentage of Wins and ITM (In The Money-1,2,3) finishes. A strong consistent Horse will show 50% or more ITM finishes and a Win% of at least 20%. The Program calculates and rates Consistency and Win Percentages.

CURRENT FORM

Running in the right Class is the Horse fit to win?  Using a combination of Class,  Consistency, Speed, and the running characteristics of the Horse’s most recent races the Program rates the Current Form or Condition that the Standardbred is in.

 THE DRIVER

If the Horse is fit to Win, the Driver in many Handicappers’ opinions is the most important of all the handicapping factors to consider. A capable Driver should have a record of at least 15% Wins. The Program rates the Driver as per the percentage of wins.

POST POSITION

Again if the Horse is fit to Win and is being driven by a capable Driver, Post Position in many Handicappers’ opinions hold the same importance as the Driver. This is especially true for ½ Mile Tracks. The Program rates the Post Position for the race under consideration.

HOW THE RACE WILL BE RUN-CONSIDERING PACE, EARLY AND LATE SPEED

Speed does not determine the winner of a Harness Race. Racing strategy, running styles, pace, early and late speed are all factors. The Program calculates fractional times to determine the above plus the all important Stretch Run. Percentage ratings are calculated and sorted predicting running positions at the ½ mile, ¾ mile, and Finish.
