The Library has been working closely with the City of Gloversville on this project. The City is the owner of our 100 year old building, which is on the
National Registry of Historic Places. City
Engineer Lee Mitchell has designed the new handicapped accessible entrance which
will be located on the east side of the library. People
will be able to enter the building via a covered ramp from the adjacent city
parking lot.
The Board of Trustees approved
Mitchell’s blueprints at their February meeting.
The Gloversville Historical
Preservation Review Board has also approved the design. The City sought bids in March; Kucel Contractors began work in mid April.
The ramp and entryway is targeted for completion by June 10.
The accessibility project will be
fully funded from grants and private donations designated for this purpose. Until the new handicapped
accessible entrance is complete, we encourage individuals with mobility
impairments who need complete onsite library services to visit the Johnstown
Public Library on the corner of Clinton and Market Streets in Johnstown. The Gloversville Free Library does offer some outreach programming at
handicapped accessible locations, including the monthly Literary Discussions
Group at the YWCA on Bleecker Street in Gloversville.
